GeoHex Project Article Published in European Energy Magazine

Tue, 16 March, 2021

An article relating to the collaborative GeoHex Project has been published in the European Energy Innovation Magazine. The article, which you can see here, details the aims of the project as well as offering some updates about the EU-funded work.

GeoHex is working to improve the efficiency of geothermal plants as well as reducing initial and ongoing costs through the optimisation of heat exchangers.

The harsh environments associated with geothermal power plants mean that components are under constant threat from corrosion and scaling issues, potentially creating high capital, operational and maintenance costs. Much of the damage caused by the conditions is done to heat exchangers, whether direct heat exchangers or Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC), as they are under constant exposure to geothermal brine corrosion and scaling.

GeoHex is working to develop heat exchanger materials to deliver anti-scaling and anti-corrosion properties alongside improvements to the heat transfer performance of the materials being used.

The benefits of these improvements are more efficient and cost-effective systems, reducing the cost of geothermal plant and strengthening the EU’s leadership on renewables.

You can find out more about the GeoHex Project on the dedicated website, here.

The GeoHex project has received funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 851917.
