Involvement in the project:

Fabricate six prototypes oh HXs and integrate them in the ORC test rig. Also assess the performance of HX under conditions representative to real use case.

ENOGIA designs and produces heat to power conversion systems, based on the combination of the Organic Rankine Cycle with an exclusive and patented micro-turbine technology. The primary sources of heat may be solar CSP, biomass, geothermal sources, Waste Heat Recovery (WHR) on industrial processes or internal combustion engines (used as a bottoming cycle). Enogia also believes that this technological breakthrough shall be available not only for big energy producers and other large players, but as well for small businesses and transportation.

Will develop a 2KW capacity ORC test rog to evaluate the HXs developed based on GeoHex.

ON was Established in Iceland in 2013 as a daughter company of Reykjavik Energy. ON is a leading power company that produces electricity, mainly by harnessing geothermal energy, to more than half of the population of Iceland. The company is a world leader in the utilisation of geothermal energy, and produces electricity and geothermal water for heating.

Renewable power sources account for more than 70% of the total primary energy consumption in Iceland, far higher than anywhere else in the world. Our district heating utility is the largest geothermal district heating utility in the world.

Involvement in the project:

Besides providing site data, they will support ICI and GREIN to run test in real geothermal brine.

FlowPhys AS is an SME located in the outskirts of Oslo, Norway. FlowPhys AS specializes in developing fast and efficient software for engineering analyses. The main product is the software FlowPhys, which is a finite element-based multi-physics software for general geometries in 1D, 2D, and 3D.

Involvement in the project:

Expertise in development of FEA for fluid-structure interaction, turbulent flows analysed by LES, Also use their knowledge to perform shape optimisation.

TVS consultants are pioneer in KBE research in the UK. Their research is focused on highlighting how the KBE method can bring added value to achieve design automation and how KBE can help reduce the amount of time spent on various phases of the design life cycle. TVS has core expertise in the field of energy and environment assessment.

Involvement in the project:

Will develop Geohex KBE, DSS and perform sustainability analysis. They will investigate GeoHex opportunity and impact analysis.

Grein Research (GR) is a leading R&D startup in Iceland, established in 2014, and is located at the University of Iceland Nanotechnology Centre. The company's vision is to bridge the gap between industry and advanced materials science, employing state of the art materials deposition, analysis and design methods to create new materials with tailored properties. The company has several ongoing research projects as well as client projects with foreign and domestic clients, in areas such as materials for the geothermal industry, catalytically active surfaces and optical coatings for the glass industry. The founders are all PhDs in Materials Physics or Engineering and have 15+ years of experience working in this field at various leading research institutions in Europe.

Grein will develop amorphous metal based anticorrosion and antiscaling coating and robust hydrophobic/ oleophobic amorphous metal coatings.

The University of Iceland (UoI), founded in 1911, is a research led state university, situated in the heart of Reykjavík, the capital of Iceland. A modern, diversified and rapidly developing institution, the University of Iceland offers internationally competitive undergraduate and graduate programs based on the Bologna system. University Politehnica of Bucharest is the oldest, greatest and prestigious technical University in Romania and covers the full range of engineering disciplines. It was involved in international collaboration with scientific entities from 35 countries. The scientific research was carried out through 38 research centres, distributed in the 15 faculties that compose the university research. The team participating in this project has a robust activity in international projects (SEE grants, FP6; FP7; PHARE; Leonardo da Vinci) and as well as project at national level (CEEX, RELANSIN, INOVATION, a.s.o) and work in a wide diversity of laboratories and equipment for materials producing, processing and characterization and applying innovative computational algorithms for large scale computational analysis.

QLM is a procurement and service company in the power sector from the Philippines in conjunction with the Government of the Philippines. Being the third largest Geothermal Energy producer globally, the largest in all of Asia-Pacific. The generation of geothermal energy is set to increase to over 12,000 GWh in 2022. The Philippines is situated in the western flank of the Circum-Pacific Ring of Fire where numerous active and dormant volcanoes can be found. According to the study conducted by the Department of Energy, the Philippines has geothermal potential of 4500 MW.

The Philippine government is mandated to build more geothermal plants as a source of energy to answer the needs of its people in the next ten years. QLM is in the centre of the activities of research development, construction and rehabilitation of Geothermal projects in the Philippines. QLM is engaged with the Philippine National Oil Company (PNOC), in particular, PNOC Renewables Corporation working on supporting research and build of geothermal plants in the Philippines, which are considered ‘National Interest’ infrastructures as they provide some of the basic needs of society.
