GEOHEX Webinar to Investigate Organic Fluids for Geothermal

Mon, 05 June, 2023

Experts from GEOHEX consortium members Technovative Solutions Ltd and the University of Iceland are due to present at a webinar to be held on 20 June 2023.

The online event, which will take place at 13:00 BST, will investigate, ‘Bubble Image Capture in an Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) and Analysis using Deep Learning for Geothermal Applications.’

The Organinc Rankine Cycle (ORC) is a thermodynamic cycle that can be used for waste heat recovery, renewable energy power plants and more, replacing water with a low boiling organic fluid.

The event will investigate the high-speed camera image capture of organic fluid R134a bubble in an ORC to detect and analyse the dynamics of the bubbles using deep learning algorithms.

The findings of this work are to be applied to the geothermal energy industry, with event speakers including Technovative Solutions Ltd’s Collaborative Research Leader, Dr Mahfuza Ahmed, alongside Assistant Mechanical Engineer, Md Mahmud Hasan Saikot and Dr Halldór Pálsson of the University of Iceland
