GeoHex Consortium to Hold Novel Geothermal Coatings Event

Wed, 01 March, 2023

The GeoHex consortium are holding an online event to share information about work on novel coatings for geothermal heat exchangers.

The event, ‘Novel Coatings for Geothermal Heat Exchangers’ is taking place from 13:00-14:00 GMT on 15 March 2023 with project leaders from Grein Research, Tæknisetur and the Innovation Centre Iceland all due to present.

Heat exchangers are critical components for geothermal environments, but are prone to damage from scaling and corrosion. GeoHex has been working to develop materials for heat exchangers that offer improvements in anti-scaling and anti-corrosion properties as well as heat transfer performance. These materials will afford improved efficiencies and reduced costs.

The challenge lies in finding metal alloy compositions that form a stable amorphous structure. This has led to the investigation of materials capable of not only providing the required anti-corrosion properties but also able to withstand the high temperatures associated with geothermal applications.

The webinar will provide information on the GeoHex project’s achievements and the development of the required corrosion and scaling resistant coatings and their effects on the heat transfer performance.
