The GeoHex consortium is pleased to host its first online workshop on "Innovations to optimise geothermal utilisation and economics" on 6th October 2021 @13:00 BST
Abstract:
Geothermal resources are naturally aggressive environments that can threaten the integrity of critical components of the geothermal power plants. Materials’ challenges such as silica scaling and corrosion damages due to continuous contact of the plant parts with the corrosive chemical species in the geothermal fluids cause lower plant efficiency and cost implications making the industry less lucrative for investors challenged by concerns on reduced return on assets. Project GeoHex (https://www.geohexproject.eu/), funded by European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme (Grant agreement 851917), offers innovative solutions to the current challenges, demonstrating techno-economic and environmental feasibility. Relying on low cost carbon steel as base material for heat exchangers (HX) with surface modifications, GeoHex aims to significantly improve the heat transfer performance and sustainability of HX thereby reducing the overall CAPEX and OPEX of geothermal plants.
The workshop will include talks from our partners on the challenges with HX in Iceland, the evolution of geothermal energy in the Philippines and how projects like GeoHex help address the current issues with the geothermal energy.
